Governance

The governance structure within Athena Learning Trust is designed to provide both strategic oversight and local accountability. Athena is governed by a Board of Trustees, chaired by the Chair of Trustees, and supported by the Members of Athena who hold the Board to account for the performance of its duties.

At a local level, CSIA has its own Local Governing Body (LGB), made up of dedicated individuals referred to as local governors. These individuals play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of education, safeguarding, and leadership are maintained at the school.  Mr Stephen Webb is Chair of the LGB and supported by Mr Greg Springer, Mrs Helen Reilly, Mr Rich Caitlin, Mr Asif Tahir and Mrs Mel Pomery.

Governance functions are delegated to the LGB via Athena’s Scheme of Delegation, which sets out the specific responsibilities entrusted to each LGB and its committees. Trustees retain complete discretion over what is delegated, allowing flexibility and tailored governance support at the local level.

There are strong, direct lines of communication between the Chair of Trustees and the Chair of the LGB, ensuring alignment between school-level governance and Athena-wide strategy. Collaborative structures such as termly chairs’ briefings and shared service committees promote consistency, transparency, and strategic coherence across all schools within Athena.

Athena's governance is coordinated by the Head of Governance and Compliance, who supports the effective operation of the Board and its various committees. Some schools within Athena also appoint their own clerks to governing bodies to support local governance administration.
At CSIA, our governors are committed to supporting the school’s leadership, challenging performance, and championing our values to ensure every student thrives.
