It is our belief that the Church has an important contribution to make to education and development of young people, and to the spiritual care of those working in education.
With this in mind, Camborne Science and International Academy has appointed a chaplaincy team who will:
- Have an informal presence around the school for staff, students and governors, encouraging a spiritual dimension, meeting spiritual needs and taking the opportunity to show that they care
- Pray for the academy, and encourage others in the local community to support in prayer
- Encourage spiritual growth and advise/guide our academy on spiritual matters, and the spiritual development of young people and staff
- Support delivery of the curriculum and assemblies, including the celebration of religious festivals
- Support Flourish Co-ordinators with the delivery of the Flourish programme: reimagining and exploring what worshipping spaces and communities can look like to serve CSIA students.
School Chaplain,
Rosheen Browning
Rosheen is Rector of Camborne Church and she looks after 4 other churches in the surrounding area as well, namely Tuckingmill Church, Penponds Church, Treslothan Church and Crowan Church. She moved to Cornwall in June 2019 and joined CSIA Chaplaincy Team in the spring term of 2020. Since then she visits regularly at lunchtimes and has been supported by church youth workers who visit the school with her.
Rosheen has plenty of experience working with young people. Before becoming a priest she was an art teacher and a church youth leader. She believes that young people’s spiritual development is as important as their academic education. Rosheen enjoys having the opportunity to come alongside young people and feels that it is very important that they get to hear about what Christians believe about God and Jesus, to discuss issues of faith and form their own opinions. It’s also important to enable them to have somewhere to turn in times of need or celebration — especially in today’s challenging world.

- Chaplain on call for staff and students
- Supporting the delivery of assemblies
- Leadership and service

Information for parents/carers about Religious Education (RE)
- Statutory requirement: All maintained schools, academies and free schools in England must provide Religious Education (RE) as part of the curriculum for all registered pupils, aged 5–18.
- Right to withdraw: Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE lessons, without giving a reason.
- Sixth Form students: Once a student is aged 18, the right to withdraw becomes theirs rather than the parent’s.
- Collective worship: This right is separate from the right to withdraw from collective worship (acts of worship or assemblies of a broadly Christian character).
- Alternative arrangements: Schools must respect a parent’s/carer’s request and, while withdrawn, pupils will be supervised but will not take part in RE. Schools are not required to provide alternative work, though many do.
- Process for withdrawal:
Parents/carers wishing to withdraw their child should make a written request to the Headteacher.
The school will then confirm the arrangements in writing.
