Festival of Ideas 2026: Great Minds Debate

he Cornwall School of Liberal Arts invites Year 10 students from across Cornwall to take part in the Great Minds Debate on Tuesday 23 June 2026 at the Nexus Campus, Camborne.

Schools are invited to enter a team of four students for a day of workshops, debates and thought-provoking challenges designed to stretch analytical thinking, communication skills and confidence.

This free event is aimed at the most able Year 10 students and promises an exciting and academically challenging experience.

Places are limited to 10 teams, with one team per school initially available.

CSLA’s Liberal Arts Pathway encourages students to think critically, make connections across disciplines and engage with big ideas that shape our world. This outreach event introduces our distinctive interdisciplinary approach, which combines intellectual curiosity with creativity and cultural understanding.

Attend our Liberal Arts Pathway taster session to learn all about The Cornwall School of Liberal Arts (CSLA) and engage in interactive discussion and critical thinking exercises. During the session, you will:
• Receive an introduction to CSLA and its ethos
• Take part in a Law Pathway workshop to explore practical applications of critical thinking
• Participate in a Liberal Arts Pathway session to experience our interdisciplinary approach firsthand

You’ll explore the three core elements of the pathway:
Great thinkers – an introduction to key concepts and theoretical perspectives
Art that made us – a journey through influential artistic and cultural movements
Conversations between disciplines – exploring a single theme through multiple academic lenses

Looking to pursue a career in law?
If you’re in Year 10 or 11 and keen to explore the world of law, our outreach session will help you understand the different career routes available — from solicitor and barrister roles to opportunities in business, government and academia.

Led by experienced educators and guest professionals, this event offers practical advice on the best routes into law, insight into university pathways, and guidance on how to start preparing now. You’ll leave with a clear sense of the next steps to take to enhance your future prospects in this competitive and rewarding field.

Oxbridge Pathway Outreach Event

The Oxbridge Pathway at CSLA provides tailored support for students aiming for the most competitive courses in the UK. Our outreach event introduces the intensive preparation and enrichment opportunities available to those aspiring to study at the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge.

During this session, you’ll discover what it takes to stand out in the Oxbridge admissions process — from developing academic depth to performing strongly in interviews and entrance assessments. You’ll also learn about the mentoring, tutorials and university visits offered through this pathway.
