Students at Camborne Science & International Academy took part in a series of workshops designed to empower them with vital safeguarding knowledge and life skills as part of a new initiative in partnership with the national children’s charity Barnardo’s and local police officers.

The sessions focused on topics including online safety, healthy relationships and recognising signs of exploitation or abuse. Officers from Devon & Cornwall Police joined specialist Barnardo’s practitioners to lead interactive discussions and activities that encouraged pupils to think critically about risks they might encounter both in and out of school and to know where to seek support.

Through real‑world scenarios and guided reflection, students were equipped with practical tools to stay safe, make positive choices and support their peers. Teachers praised the programme for its relevance and the confidence it gave participants to speak up about difficult issues and ask for help when needed.

School leaders said the collaboration highlighted the importance of strong community partnerships in creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all young people and reaffirmed the academy’s commitment to student wellbeing and safeguarding.
