Sixth Form students from Camborne Science and International Academy (CSIA) were invited to 10 Downing Street for a special youth press conference with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, in the lead‑up to the COP30 climate summit in Brazil.
The event brought together young people from across the UK to discuss the role of the next generation in shaping future climate policy. Students had the opportunity to engage directly with senior government leaders on topics including the economic opportunities associated with achieving net zero, the importance of environmental sustainability in education, and how Britain can lead global climate action.
Several Camborne students posed questions to Ed Miliband on subjects such as how commercial aviation can become more sustainable and which initiatives are most effective in cutting greenhouse gas emissions to meet the UK’s 2030 climate targets.
Student Hattie said the experience gave her hope that young people’s concerns about climate change are being heard, emphasising the importance of having a voice in discussions that will shape their future.
Principal Emma Haase praised the students’ passion, insight and confidence in discussing climate issues with national leaders, saying the visit would stay with them for years to come.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer added that decisions made today on clean energy and climate action will most affect future generations, affirming the government’s commitment to investing in young people as part of its leadership on environmental issues.
